Theme parks without a car

Six European parks in five countries, reached by train, bus or shuttle from a nearby city, with what we paid.

Roller coaster loops at Gardaland
Gardaland, Italy.
A themed square at Parc Astérix
Parc Astérix, France.
A tall roller coaster at Energylandia
Energylandia, Poland.

Every time, our strategy was the same: pick a base with good public transport, then let a train, a bus or the park's own shuttle do the rest. This guide puts all six parks together, with the route, the tickets and the budget for each.

Staying longer at Lake Garda? Read my free article Lake Garda without a car, with Verona, Sirmione, Lazise and our hotel in Peschiera.

What's in each chapter

  • The route, step by step: stations, bus lines and shuttles, and how long each leg took.
  • Where we stayed, with honest notes on each place.
  • Tickets and fast passes: what they include, and whether they were worth it.
  • What we spent, with a budget table for two people.
  • What I'd tell a friend: best rides, what to skip, crowds and weather.

At one park the fast pass skipped two of the biggest rides; at another it covered the most popular ones. The guide tells you which.

Good to know

We visited the parks in 2025 and 2026, always as two people. Where I have receipts, prices are what we paid. Where I don't, they're official 2026 prices, clearly marked. Prices change with the season, so check the official sites before you book.
